Background of the Study:
Child marriage remains a significant issue in many parts of Nigeria, particularly in northern states like Niger. In Minna, Niger State, the practice of marrying girls at a young age continues to be widespread despite legal frameworks aimed at prohibiting such practices. The Nigerian Child Rights Act (2003) prohibits child marriage, but enforcement of these laws has been inconsistent, leading to continued violations of girls' rights to education, health, and freedom from forced marriage.
This study aims to examine the current state of child marriage in Minna, focusing on the effectiveness of laws and their enforcement in protecting girls' rights. By assessing the root causes of child marriage, the study will provide recommendations for improving the implementation of existing laws and protecting children from such harmful practices.
